University introduction
The University of Naples Federico II is one of the oldest universities established by a government official, while many educational and academic institutions in Italy have been the product of initiatives by other companies. The purpose of the university was to establish a higher education institution that could end the power of northern Italian universities such as Bologna and Padua, which were too independent or under the influence of the Pope, and establish itself as a scientific hub.
The University of Naples survived World War II and, as one of the major scientific centers at the time, contributed to the advancement of science in the postwar period. Since 2000, a very large new complex, the Monte Sant’Angelo Complex in the Fuorigrotta region, has been established and has hosted students in the faculties of Mathematics, Physics and Natural Sciences, Biotechnology and Economics. In total, the University of Naples has four schools, 26 departments, a faculty of 3,000 and 4,500 administrative staff. The total number of students at this university reaches 100,000, so the University of Naples can be considered one of the largest universities in Italy.
The University of Naples works well with leading companies in Italy and abroad, as well as in direct contact with 50 research centers under the auspices of the University.
